Materiali se mešajo, voda pa se usmerja v nasprotno smer znotraj ukrivljenega kanalskega telesa s pomočjo vrtenja gredi, prekrite z gumijastim slojem. Fini mulj, ki je suspendiran v vodi, se usede v bazene na obeh straneh kanala, kar učinkovito odstrani nečistoče iz vode. Polžni podložniki, ki so na voljo z enojno ali dvojno polžno gredjo, so zelo vsestranski stroji, zasnovani za pranje materialov v razponu velikosti 0-10 mm.
